BRIEF: Padres build a golf course -- inside their ballpark

Nov. 04--With baseball season over, the Padres have found a pretty imaginative way to draw fans to Petco Park this week.

The team has transformed the stadium into a 9-hole, par-3 golf course with temporary greens placed throughout the outfield and tees stuck in odd places.

Golfers start at home plate, hitting toward a hole in center field. From there, they proceed to tee boxes situated throughout the stands, including the upper deck.

The Padres partnered with Callaway Golf for "The Links at Petco Park," which begins Thursday. Even with an extra session added on Monday, the event is sold out, with golfers paying between $100 and $200 per round.

In something of an understatement, team executive Jeremy Horowitz says: "The opportunity to play golf inside a Major League ballpark does not come along every day."
