Feb. 28--A stretch of Pacific Coast Highway in Ventura County has reopened after crews finished clearing mud and rocks this week that closed sections of the road beginning in November.
The final nine-mile stretch of the highway was cleared between Las Posas and Yerba Buena roads and traffic began flowing shortly after 2 p.m Friday. That stretch of road was closed after rock- and mudslides left 4 to 6 feet of debris.
The closure was necessary to stablize the road and make sure drivers were safe, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Workers moved 40,000 yards of dirt to rebuild slopes washed away by the rainstorm and used a crane to move boulders to stabilize the slopes.
