BRIEF: Overland Sheepskin opens on Mag Mile

Dec. 15--Overland Sheepskin Co. has quietly opened at 500 N. Michigan Ave., bringing Chicago its soft leathers and warm furs just in time for winter.

Fairfield, Iowa-based Overland, which has 16 U.S. stores, last operated a store in Chicago in the 1990s and "we've been looking for the right location and opportunity to re-open on the Magnificent Mile since," said Gabriel Openshaw, vice president of e-commerce at the company. The Chicago store, which opened last week, is the second of three Overland stores to open this year.

The shop, founded in 1973 in New Mexico, sells men's and women's coats, hats, slippers, gloves, boots, bags and more. A women's shearling sheepskin coat runs about $1,595, while a men's distressed lambskin leather coat with rabbit fur lining costs $3,249. Furs include mink, rabbit, beaver and lynx. It also sells pelts as rugs and car seat covers.
