BRIEF: Oreo to let customers personalize packaging for holidays

Nov. 09--The maker of Oreos is hoping people won't mind shelling out $15 for a bag of cookies if they get to have a hand in designing the package.

Oreo maker Mondelez is letting shoppers design custom packages of the sandwich cookies on a new website, shop.oreo.com.

With Oreo Colorfilled, customers can choose from two designs, one each from graphic artists Jeremyville and Timothy Goodman. Each features cartoonish seasonal images, including Santa, snowmen and ornaments.

Users can adjust the size of the images and choose from four colors to further personalize the design.

Or, for those who don't want a digital design, Oreo is offering a black-and-white package that comes with markers to color the package by hand.

Each Colorfilled Oreo pack costs $10, plus $5 for shipping. There's a limited number of packs available, but Mondelez didn't say how many would be offered.

Deerfield-based Mondelez said the promotion is part of a goal to grow e-commerce sales to $1 billion by 2020.
