BRIEF: Ontario break-in ends with homeowner shooting intruder, police say

March 15--A man who broke into a home in Ontario early Tuesday was shot by the homeowner, police said.

The shooting occurred in the 1800 block of North Parkside Avenue just after midnight, said Ontario Police Lt. Pat Birkett.

The intruder had gone into a bedroom and the occupant screamed, waking her parents and brother, KABC reported.

The family trapped the man in the bedroom and told him not to move, said John Cortes, who lives in the home, according to KABC.

"He didn't listen" and was shot two or three times, Cortes said. "Police took it from there."

Officers said the family is cooperating with the investigation. The unidentified suspect was listed in critical condition and rushed to the hospital, KNBC reported.
