BRIEF: Online clothing reseller thredUP opens Vernon Hills distribution center

March 21--Secondhand clothing retailer thredUP has located its third national distribution center in Vernon Hills, the company announced Monday.

An online marketplace for used women's and children's clothing, thredUP opened the 145,000-square-foot facility on Lakeview Parkway earlier this month, a company spokeswoman said. The Vernon Hills distribution center has 145 employees, a number expected to more than double over the next year.

"We've chosen Vernon Hills, Ill., because we believe its location is ideal for us to continue to improve the thredUP experience for our customers," John Voris, thredUP's chief operating officer, said in a statement.

Founded in 2009, San Francisco-based thredUP sells "like-new" clothing on consignment and through direct purchase. Adding the Vernon Hills facility will enable the reseller to provide faster service and more localized inventory to customers in the Midwest, the company said.

ThredUP features more than 25,000 brands and has resold more than 11 million items, the company said.

The company's other distribution centers are in San Leandro, Calif., and Mechanicsburg, Pa., with a new Atlanta facility slated to open in June.
