BRIEF: One dead after small plane crashes near glider school

Aug. 27--One person was killed Thursday afternoon when a small plane crashed near a private airport in the southeast Antelope Valley.

It is unclear whether the dead person was the pilot.

The plane crashed about 12:12 p.m. near 165th Street and East Avenue X in Llano, said Fire Specialist David Dantic of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Firefighters found one body when they arrived at the scene, he said.

The plane, identified as a Piper PA-25, crashed near the Crystalaire Country Club, a privately owned golf facility that has its own airstrip.

Crystal Airport is mostly used by glider planes. The Southern California Soaring Academy offers glider flight training there.

The flight school is closed on Thursdays.
