BRIEF: Oliver Purnell, ex-DePaul coach, sells mansion at a loss

Aug. 26--Oliver Purnell, the former DePaul University men's basketball coach, on Tuesday sold his 12-room, 7,300-square-foot brick and stone mansion in Lincoln Park for $2.575 million.

Purnell, 62, coached DePaul from 2010 until earlier this year, when he resigned after five seasons, going 54-105 and failing to reach the NCAA tournament in any of those seasons.

Purnell purchased the mansion for $3.075 million in 2010. Built in 2008, the extra-wide, five-bedroom house has five baths, five custom fireplaces, handcrafted woodwork, Marvin windows, coffered and barreled ceilings, a grand staircase, custom doors, radiant heated floors, a wine cellar with a tasting table, an elevator, a library with a wet bar, and a custom kitchen with an AGA stove. Outdoor features include a rooftop deck and hot tub, plus a breezeway to a three-car garage.

Purnell first listed the mansion in April for $3.2 million. It most recently had been available for $2.995 million.
