BRIEF: Officials: Uptown man died of carbon monoxide toxicity

Feb. 07--Officials determined Friday that a 44-year-old man found dead Thursday evening in the Uptown neighborhood died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of his family, was found unresponsive in a home on the 1000 block of West Winona Street, according to police.

The man died of carbon monoxide toxicity caused by gas emission from a hot water tank, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The man's death was ruled accidental.

The man was discovered at 10:05 p.m. and police were conducting a death investigation, police said.
