BRIEF: Officials: Morton West student in custody, threatened 'to blow the place up'

March 11--A student at Morton West High School in Berwyn was in police custody Friday after making a threat against the school, officials said.

Berwyn police Chief Jim Ritz said the male student walked into a classroom and told everyone he was "going to blow the place up." He then walked out of the classroom.

Authorities were able to identify and locate the student using video surveillance, Ritz said. He was also identified by witnesses and was taken into custody.

The school, at 2400 S. Home Ave., was placed on "a soft lockdown," according a statement from Morton High School District 201. The lockdown has ended.
