Nov. 28--A man was killed and two people, including a 14-year-old boy, were wounded in shootings Friday, Chicago police said.
A man was fatally shot on the West Side on Friday afternoon, according to fire officials and Chicago police.
At 1:19 p.m., an ambulance was sent to the first block of North Hamlin Avenue in the city's West Garfield Park neighborhood for a person shot, according to Chicago Fire Cmdr. Walter Schroeder.
A 36-year-old man was inside a vehicle when someone fired shots and hit him in the right side of the chest, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a spokeswoman for the Chicago police.
The person shot was inside a vehicle, possibly a blue pickup truck, when he was severely injured, said Schroeder, who earlier said the victim was a 17 or younger. He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital and later pronounced dead.
He was identified as Hommy Vega of the 1300 block of West Chicago Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
At 1:30 a.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in North Austin, said Chicago police spokesman Officer Hector Alfaro.
He was on the sidewalk in the 1200 block of North Central Avenue when someone in a black SUV fired shots at him. A family member took him to West Suburban Medical Center, and his condition was stabilized.
At about 10:45 p.m., a 14-year-old boy was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, Alfaro said.
He was on the sidewalk in the 1400 block of North Washtenaw Avenue when he was shot in the ankle, Alfaro said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital and his condition was stabilized.
