BRIEF: Officials: Man awaiting bond court on drug charges dies

Jan. 16--A 56-year-old man who was awaiting a bond hearing for drug-related charges was pronounced dead Thursday, officials said.

The man, whose name was not available pending notification of his family, was arrested in Chicago on drug-related charges, said Cook County Sheriff's spokeswoman Sophia Ansari.

The man died as he was to go before a judge this afternoon on drug charges at the George Leighton Criminal Courts Building at 2600 S. California Avenue, Ansari said.

There did not appear to be any trauma involved.

The Cook County medical examiner's office was notified of the incident and an autopsy is expect to occur on Friday, officials said.
