BRIEF: Officials: DNA match leads to charges in 2 sexual assaults in Des Plaines

Feb. 25--A 30-year-old suburban man whose DNA had been put into a database after convictions in a string of burglaries in Des Plaines in 2009 was tied to two sexual assaults last year, according to Cook County sheriff's officials.

LaMarcus Anderson, of the 8800 block of Carleah Street in unincorporated Des Plaines, was ordered held in lieu of $200,000 bail on Feb. 22, according to a news release from Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart.

Anderson was charged with two counts of sexual assault in attacks that happened July 3 and Nov. 3 on the same block as his home in the northwest suburb, Dart said.

According to officials, after Anderson had been convicted in 2009 in a string of burglaries in unincorporated Des Plaines, his DNA was uploaded to a national database.

Evidence recovered from the sexual assaults then matched Anderson's DNA from the database, officials said. He was arrested Sunday at his home.

He appeared in the Skokie courthouse, where he was ordered held on bail, officials said.
