BRIEF: Officer, civilian sent to hospitals after police car crash

Dec. 13--A police officer and an occupant of another car were taken to hospitals Saturday morning after a Chicago Police Department vehicle crashed on the South Side.

The police car crashed about 9 a.m. in the 5300 block of South Union Avenue in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood, said police spokesman Jose Estrada, who did not have more information.

The officer was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Stroger Hospital, and the other person, a civilian, was taken in fair-to-serious condition to St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, Chicago Fire Department officials said.
