BRIEF: Off-duty sheriff's deputy wounded in Little Village shooting

Aug. 04--An off-duty Cook County sheriff's deputy was shot in the leg Monday night in an alley behind his mother's Little Village home, authorities said.

The 37-year-old deputy, who was wearing his uniform, was in an alley with his son near the 2800 block of South Tripp Avenue about 10:30 p.m. when someone in a minivan shot him, then fled north in the alley, authorities said.

The officer was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. The deputy is assigned to the Cook County Jail.

No one was in custody Tuesday morning, police said.
