BRIEF: Off-duty Indiana officer stabbed while working security at Chicago auto pound

March 07--An off-duty officer for the Indiana University Northwest Police Department was stabbed while working as a security guard at a Chicago auto pound early Monday, authorities said.

The officer, 22, was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to police.

The man was working security at the pound at 10301 S. Doty Ave. shortly after 1 a.m. when he began struggling with someone who cut and stabbed him several times in the head and upper body, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman said.

No one was reported in custody.

The officer has worked for the Indiana University Northwest Police Department in Gary for about a year, according to a university spokesman.
