BRIEF: Off-duty cop injured after gun discharges on South Side

July 23--An off-duty Chicago police officer was injured after the officer's gun discharged while the officer was responding to a crime in progress in the West Englewood neighborhood, police officials said.

The officer was shot at 11:30 a.m. on the 2200 block of West 69th Street, according to police news affairs officer Bari Lemmon.

The officer was taken in good condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

According to preliminary information, the off-duty officer was responding to a crime in progress when the officer's gun discharged, Lemmon said.

No other injuries were reported. Police would not give further information about the incident or the officer.
