June 12--President Obama took time out of his schedule Thursday night to attend the annual congressional baseball game between Democrats and Republicans at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
Obama, on hand primarily to schmooze with congressional leaders, took a photo with the Racing Presidents, the Washington Nationals' oversize mascots of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft.
He then took to his Twitter account @POTUS to let the world know he had a challenge for them.
The first congressional baseball game was played in 1909. It is now a benefit for the Washington Literacy Council, the Boys Girls Club of Greater Washington and the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation.
Obama reportedly spent time with both teams and brought a gift of White House-brewed beer for the winners. The Democrats prevailed, 5-2.
The president has been pushing for the House of Representatives to pass a major trade bill, which is up for a vote Friday. The Senate has already passed the bill.
