Dec. 15--An English teacher at Oak Park and River Forest High School has been charged with sexual assault of a juvenile and is expected to appear in Cook County bond court Tuesday, authorities said.
Jeremy J. Lind, 41, of the 700 block of North Elmwood Avenue in Oak Park, is charged with three felony counts of criminal sexual assault, Chicago police said in a news release.
In addition to those charges, Lind also was charged with four felony counts of traveling to meet a minor, four felony counts of indecent solicitation of a child and two felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, police said.
Lind turned himself over to Chicago police Monday afternoon, police said.
According to a statement from the high school, "Lind has been on administrative leave since Oct. 1, 2015, after school officials were informed of allegations of misconduct between Lind and a student."
"When the allegations were reported, school officials immediately reported the information to the Department of Children and Family Services and placed Lind on leave," the statement said. "The matter has been under investigation by Oak Park and Chicago law enforcement authorities since that time."
School spokeswoman Karin Sullivan said faculty and staff should direct any students who want to discuss this issue or need support to speak with their counselors or school social workers. She also encouraged parents and guardians to call their student's counselor or a social workers with any questions about how to provide support at home.
Lind was co-sponsor of the school's Spoken Word Club, an organization where students write and perform slam-style poetry.
According to the club's website, it has finished in second place six times over the last nine years at the Louder Than a Bomb youth poetry festival in Chicago.
