BRIEF: Oak Lawn woman accused of bringing loaded gun into courthouse

Feb. 25--A 47-year-old woman who tried to walk into the Bridgeview courthouse with a loaded handgun Wednesday morning was arrested, police said.

Denise Smith, of Oak Lawn, was going through the courthouse security screening when sheriff's deputies found a loaded .38-caliber revolver on her, according to a statement from the Cook County sheriff's office.

Sheriff's deputies took Smith into custody, and she has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon on government property and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, both felonies.

Smith did not have a concealed carry license or a valid firearm owner's identification card, police said.

She is slated to appear for a bond hearing Thursday at the courthouse, 10220 S. 76th Ave.
