BRIEF: Oak Lawn insurer wants out of $3M award in cop shooting

Nov. 27--The Chicago Tribune Media Group's SouthtownStar reports: One of Oak Lawn's municipal insurers has filed a federal lawsuit, contending that it should not be required to pay its share of a $3 million settlement to a resident who was shot six times by a police officer four years ago.

In its suit, Essex Insurance Co. says the "willful and wanton conduct" of police during the incident and the village failing to notify the company of the shooting until 2013 allow it to seek relief from paying $1 million to the victim.
