BRIEF: O'Hare filling station to sell alternative fuels

Nov. 03--An environmentally cleaner fueling station will open near O'Hare International Airport in 2016, city aviation officials said Monday.

The Chicago Department of Aviation said it has contracted with two companies to develop a fueling station that will sell alternative fuels to the public and to commercial fleets, including operators of taxis and rental car shuttle buses.

Compressed natural gas, biodiesel and gasoline will be sold at the facility, which will also provide fast-charge stations for electric vehicles, officials said.

The 4,000-square-foot facility will be at Higgins Road and Patton Drive, officials said.

The station's operator will pay the city a base rent of $100,000 for the land and 5 percent of gross sales, according to the aviation department.

The facility will be built and operated by PMG Airport Developers and Clean Energy Fuels.

The target opening date for the travel center at O'Hare is early 2016, officials said.
