March 02--Chase Hounshell missed his entire junior season and all but one game of his sophomore season thanks to various shoulder ailments.
So being granted a sixth year of eligibility was just what the NCAA ordered for Hounshell, though he won't be playing for Notre Dame. The defensive lineman-turned-tight end had one catch last season for the Irish as a graduate student.
"Going to college for six years isn't just for doctors anymore," Hounshell tweeted Tuesday.
Hounshell earned a degree from the Mendoza School of Business in May 2015 and played 13 games last season for Notre Dame.
He told IrishSportsDaily.com he's been granted his release from Notre Dame and he'll be making visits to other school before deciding where he'll play next season.
