BRIEF: Notre Dame ranked No. 4 in Sports Illustrated preseason football poll

Aug. 05--Notre Dame is No. 4. Notre Dame is No. 11.

That's where the Irish find themselves ranked in the preseason by Sports Illustrated and in the USA Today coaches poll, respectively.

Defending national champion Ohio State tops both rankings.

The Associated Press media poll will be released on Aug. 23.

Notre Dame was 8-5 last year and defeated LSU 31-28 in the Music City Bowl.

Notre Dame, which begins practice Friday in Culver, Ind., kicks off the season Sept. 5 at home against Texas.
