April 21--Notre Dame will play 12 regular-season games in 2017, as usual.
One of those games, though, could be losing a name.
Athletic director Jack Swarbrick told ESPN on Wednesday that the Irish's annual "Shamrock Series" game, a "home" game that has taken place at sites such as Yankee Stadium, Soldier Field and Fenway Park, could be on hiatus for the 2017 season so the school can play one more home game at Notre Dame Stadium after its renovation is completed.
The stadium has been undergoing $400 million in upgrades and additions as part of the university's "Campus Crossroads" project.
"In all likelihood we will not do one in '17 because that's the opening of the Crossroads ... but we anticipate doing it in subsequent years," Swarbrick told ESPN.
This season, Notre Dame will play Army on Nov. 12 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
The Shamrock Series began there in 2009 when the Irish defeated Washington State 40-14.
