Oct. 23--Three days after decommitting from Alabama, Khalid Kareem took an official visit to Notre Dame on Oct. 17. Less than a week later, the four-star defensive end from Farmington, Mich., declared Friday that he has committed to the Irish.
Kareem tweeted his appreciation for all the schools that recruited him -- and there were plenty. Every team in the Big Ten offered the 6-foot-4, 257-pounder, who also was courted by Ivy League schools Harvard, Princeton and Yale. Duke and Stanford also were among his 38 offers.
Kareem tweeted that he will be an early enrollee, meaning he is scheduled to graduate from Harrison High School in December.
"The combination of great academics and great football is most important to my family I," Kareem tweeted. "I'm 100% committed to further my education and play college football at the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish."
Kareem had 85 tackles and 19 sacks as a junior last season and is ranked as the sixth-best player in Michigan in the 247Sports.com composite rankings. He is the Irish's 17th commitment in the Class of 2016.
No. 11 Notre Dame (6-1) has an open date this weekend and plays No. 22 Temple on Oct. 31 in Philadelphia.
