BRIEF: Notre Dame gets commitment from 3-star safety Devin Studstill

Dec. 16--Like father, not like son.

Devin Studstill chose not to follow in his father's footsteps and play for West Virginia. Instead, the safety from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. -- whose father, Darren, played quarterback for the Mountaineers in the early 1990s -- decided to follow in the footsteps of a former high school teammate when he orally committed to Notre Dame on Tuesday.

Studstill will join former Palm Beach Gardens High School teammate Te'von Coney, a freshman linebacker, on the Irish. Studstill chose Notre Dame over Miami, Texas and West Virginia. He also had offers from Illinois, Michigan State, North Carolina State, Penn State and Wisconsin, among others.

The 6-foot-1, 183-pound Studstill is a three-star recruit, according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings, in which he ranks 28th nationally at his position. He is the Irish's 20th commitment in the Class of 2016.
