BRIEF: Notre Dame drops out of coaches' poll

Nov. 16--Notre Dame's 43-40 loss Saturday to Northwestern meant a sharp dip was coming for the Irish in the polls.

In the coaches' poll, at least, it meant falling out of the poll completely. The Irish fell out of the top 25 from No. 16 a week ago after their stunning loss to the Wildcats.

Florida State returned to No. 1 with 39 first-place votes after Mississippi State lost to Alabama on Saturday. Alabama was No. 2 after receiving 17 first-place votes.

The Irish ranked No. 18 in the College Football Playoff committee's rankings and will take a hit there when the latest rankings come out Tuesday.
