Dec. 31--For Max Redfield, saying sorry wasn't enough.
But it's a start, according to Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly.
The Notre Dame junior safety was sent home from the Fiesta Bowl on Tuesday for violating team rules. Kelly didn't specify which rules, but said Redfield was "apologetic" for his misstep.
Redfield made that much known when he posted a mea culpa on Instagram on Tuesday night, suggesting his punishment was the result of being tardy.
"It was an isolated incident," Kelly said Wednesday. "He's a good kid, made a mistake. We have a very firm standard when we go off site, how we handle things.
"Max knows he made a mistake and he's fully accountable for his actions. There's no ripple effect. We move on."
Thing is, Redfield's Instagram apology indicated he wasn't the only guilty party.
"Although I was not alone in my two incidents of being punctual, I solely take responsibility for my actions," Redfield wrote.
Redfield won't play Friday in the Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State. A source said he has not been kicked off the team.
