May 24--In a big way, Mike Brey was trying to push Martin Ingelsby out the door that March day before the Sweet 16.
Brey, Notre Dame's basketball coach, saw his wish granted Tuesday when, according to multiple reports, his former player and now-former assistant will take over the job Brey held for five seasons as head coach of Delaware. The news first was reported by CBS' Gary Parrish on Twitter.
Ingelsby, who was a senior point guard during Brey's during his first year in South Bend in 2000, spent seven seasons as Brey's assistant for the Irish.
"I think somebody's going to get him," Brey said before the Irish faced Wisconsin in the Sweet 16. "I'd be thrilled if the guys in Newark got him. He'd be an unbelievable fit.
"He has as much input in what we do offensively as I do. We conspire on a lot of things."
Delaware was 7-23 last season, including a 2-16 record in the Colonial Athletic Association.
Irish to face Iowa: In other news, Notre Dame will play host to Iowa on Nov. 29 as part of the Big Ten/ACC challenge.
"We are looking forward to the challenge of an NCAA tournament-caliber opponent in our building," Brey said in a statement.
