Sept. 08--Northwestern linebacker Anthony Walker was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week following his stellar performance in the Wildcats' 16-6 upset of Stanford.
Additionally, redshirt freshman quarterback Clayton Thorson was honored as the conference's Freshman of the Week.
Thorson completed 12 of 24 passes for 105 yards, and rushed for 68 yards, including the game's only touchdown on a 42-yard run.
Walker, a sophomore from Miami, was credited with 10 tackles, including three tackles for loss. He also broke up two passes, recovered a fumbled and recorded a half sack.
The Northwestern defense limited No. 21 Stanford to 240 total yards.
