June 01--The Northwestern basketball team added to its front line with the signing of 6-foot-10 forward Joey van Zegeren, the school announced Monday.
A native of Hoogeveen, the Netherlands, van Zegeren has one year of eligibility remaining and can compete immediately as a graduate transfer.
Van Zegeren played 79 career games at Virginia Tech over the past four seasons. Last season, he averaged 9.8 points and 5.3 rebounds. As a redshirt sophomore, he averaged 6.4 points and 5.0 rebounds.
"We're really excited to add someone of Joey's caliber to our program," Northwestern coach Chris Collins said in a statement. "He brings four years of ACC experience and he's a veteran guy on the front line who has been very accomplished at a high level. He'll bring great athleticism, physicality and size, but most importantly, experience to our team as we head into next season."
