BRIEF: Northbrook's JT Compher is Michigan hockey captain

June 03--Northbrook's JT Compher, a rising junior, has been elected captain of the University of Michigan hockey team.

Compher, a forward, had 12 goals and 12 assists last season for the Wolverines, who lost in the Big Ten title game. The year before, he was the conference's freshman of the year.

The 2013 second-round pick of the Buffalo Sabres also played all five games of the 2015 World Junior Championships for the United States. Eventual silver medalist Russia eliminated Team USA in the quarterfinals.
