BRIEF: No, the Clippers' Spencer Hawes is not out for the season, he says

Dec. 18--Spencer Hawes received a call from his financial advisor Wednesday morning.

"He told me I was out for the season," Hawes said. "It's not the case."

Apparently Hawes' financial advisor had heard from Stephen A. Smith on ESPN's "First Take" that the Clippers' backup center would be sidelined this season with his left knee bruise.

"Stuff like that seems like it always happens," Hawes said. "I wasn't too worried about it."

Hawes said he wasn't sure where that report came from. He did not provide a time line for his return, but said he's making progress.

"The range of motion is better," Hawes said. "The pain has gone down. It's responding to everything we've done treatment-wise, and everything we've done to test it out. So it's encouraging."

Hawes suffered the injury in the first quarter of a game against the Washington Wizards on Dec. 12 and has been out since.

He has averaged 6.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 17 minutes over 22 games this season.
