BRIEF: No other suspects sought in East L.A. shooting that left two dead

Nov. 16--Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said that no other suspects remain at large in the officer-involved shooting early Sunday in East Los Angeles that left two people dead.

Deputies shot and killed two people after one of the suspects pointed a gun in the direction of the officers, said sheriff's Lt. John Corina. Earlier media reports said that at least one other suspect was being sought.

The incident began about 2:30 a.m. Sunday when a 911 caller told authorities that a man in a car pointed a gun at him, Corina said. About the same time, the caller flagged down a sheriff's patrol car, which then located the suspect's vehicle.

Deputies pulled the car over in a residential neighborhood in the 5300 block of Verona Street, Corina said.

The passenger got out of the car and raised the gun in the direction of the deputies when he was shot, Corina said. The driver of the vehicle was also shot, but Corina said he may have simply been in the line of fire.

A handgun was recovered at the scene, he said.

No deputies were injured in the incident and no further information was immediately available.
