BRIEF: No charges to be filed against Clippers forward Branden Dawson in spousal abuse case

April 06--Clippers rookie forward Branden Dawson will not face charges in his spousal abuse case after the L.A. city attorney's office declined to proceed because of insufficient evidence, spokesman Frank Mateljan said Wednesday morning.

The case had been referred by the L.A. County district attorney's office for possible misdemeanor charges after Dawson was arrested last month on suspicion of felony spousal abuse at a residence in Playa Vista.

Dawson told the Los Angeles Times on Sunday that he was confident that no charges would be filed.

"I'm not that kind of guy," Dawson said. "I'm not a criminal. That's not me."

Clippers Coach Doc Rivers had allowed Dawson to rejoin the team last weekend based on his understanding of the situation through the accounts of police and others involved.

Dawson, a second-round draft pick out of Michigan State, has appeared in only three games for the Clippers this season.
