Nov. 07--Northern Illinois cornerback Anthony Brooks has been named Mid-American Conference West Defensive Player of the Week.
The sophomore from Detroit had four tackles, one pass breakup and a clutch interception return for a touchdown in the Huskies' 35-21 victory at Ball State on Wednesday night.
Brooks intercepted Ball State freshman quarterback Jack Milas and returned his first career interception 21 yards to give NIU a 28-14 lead.
"We always want to challenge who we play. As a secondary, we look at everybody we play as a big challenge," Brooks said after the first defensive TD of the year for NIU. "We feel like we have something to prove every week. We want to challenge any quarterback, no matter if he is a freshman or a senior."
