Nov. 06--Northern Illinois quarterback Drew Hare underwent season-ending surgery Thursday to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon, but the news is better for wide receiver Tommylee Lewis.
Both players were injured in the second quarter of Tuesday's victory at Toledo. Lewis suffered a sprained left knee, and coach Rod Carey did not rule him out for Wednesday's game at Buffalo.
"It's not one of those things you brush off," Carey said Thursday. "What his timetable is coming back, nobody knows right now.
"Is there a chance he could play (Wednesday)? Absolutely. But we're going to have to know more after we start the rehab process."
Lewis is second on the team with 33 receptions for 387 yards and three touchdowns. Hare, the Huskies starter all year, finishes the season 164 of 257 (63.8 percent) for 1,962 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Redshirt freshman Ryan Graham entered late in the second quarter at Toledo and led the Huskies on a pair of long fourth-quarter scoring drives. Joel Bouagnon capped the second one with a 2-yard touchdown run for the go-ahead score in the 32-27 victory over the previously unbeaten Rockets.
