BRIEF: NHL top rookie candidates for Calder Trophy

March 26--Here's a look at the top candidates for the Calder Trophy that goes to the NHL's rookie of the year.

1. Artemi Panarin, left wing, Blackhawks: Panarin has led all rookies in points for most of the season and helped form one of the most dangerous lines in hockey with Patrick Kane and Artem Anisimov. He also has helped key a resurgent Hawks power play. Entering Saturday, Panarin had 14 more points than the next-closest contender even though his production has tapered off lately.

2. Connor McDavid, center, Oilers: McDavid missed a significant amount of time because of a broken collarbone, but the center still had 14 goals and 29 assists over 40 games entering Saturday. If voters choose not to dock him for the missed time, he could win award.

3. Dylan Larkin, center, Red Wings: Larkin is among the Wings' leaders in points at 43 (21 goals, 22 assists) and is he helping to keep the team afloat in the playoff race. A dynamic center with speed, Larkin is also a plus-15 for the season, which is second among qualifying rookies and he has tallied five game-winning goals, tied for second among rookies.
