March 23--CBS News President David Rhodes signed a new deal with the network that keeps him in charge of his division through 2019.
The 41-year-old Rhodes is in charge of programming and news gathering at the division. Under his watch, CBS News has expanded with an online streaming video news channel, CBSN, in partnership with CBS Interactive.
His previous deal was not up until 2017.
"CBS News is experiencing division-wide growth," CBS President and Chief Executive Leslie Moonves said in a statement announcing Rhodes' new agreement. "David's exceptional news judgment and competitive acumen has had a great impact so far, and we look forward to continued growth on all our news broadcasts as we move forward."
Rhodes joined CBS News as president in 2011 after executive stints at Fox News and Bloomberg News. He became the top executive in the news division in 2014, after Jeff Fager's decision to relinquish his role as CBS News chairman and return full-time to producing "60 Minutes."
Rhodes' brother Ben works in the Obama administration as deputy national security advisor for strategic communications and speechwriting.
