Feb. 04--A 75-year-old Newport Beach man was killed in a single-car crash Tuesday morning on the 405 Freeway in Seal Beach.
Robert McNamara was a passenger in a 2002 Mercedes-Benz when it crashed, throwing him from the car, according to the California Highway Patrol. He died at the scene, the Orange County coroner's office said.
The crash occurred about 6:40 a.m. when the Mercedes' driver, McNamara's 70-year-old sister, veered "aggressively" left as she tried to transition from the northbound 405's carpool lane to the northbound 605 Freeway carpool connector, according to the CHP.
As the car swerved, it hit a divider separating the lanes and the driver lost control, the CHP said.
McNamara, who apparently was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car as it rolled over onto the 605 transition road, according to the CHP.
His sister, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, the CHP said.
