Feb. 10--Two new works by choreographer Twyla Tharp will be performed in Chicago this fall as part of a multi-city tour celebrating Tharp's 50-year career, it was announced on Tuesday.
The Auditorium Theatre will host the works as part of a co-commission with the Ravinia Festival. While it is on both venues' seasons, all performances will take place at the Auditorium Theatre.
Chicago is just one stop on this ten-week tour featuring twelve dancers and set to music by J.S. Bach, Henry Butler, Steve Bernstein and John Zorn. The tour will play 15 cities including Washington D.C., Denver and Dallas. A full schedule will be announced on a later date.
The tour was co-commissioned by arts organizations in five cities: the Auditorium Theatre and Ravinia Festival in Chicago, the Joyce Theater in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., TITAS Presents and AT Performing Arts Center in Dallas and the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills.
Tharp's new works will play the Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Pkwy, Nov. 6-8. Tickets go on sale in the summer.
