March 12--New tallies in the tight election to represent a Los Angeles City Council district that stretches from Sherman Oaks to the Miracle Mile show council aide Carolyn Ramsay and community health center development director David Ryu still leading in the race to reach the May runoff.
Ryu widened his lead over another candidate, nonprofit leader Tomas O'Grady, who now trails him by 149 votes for a spot in the two-way runoff.
"It now looks like our campaign has successfully made it into the general election and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my fight to bring a fresh perspective to City Hall," Ryu said in a statement Thursday.
O'Grady said he remained hopeful that he would make it into the May runoff.
"I'm not conceding because the margin is too close," he said Thursday, pointing to "the large number of provisionals" left to be counted.
The updated tallies include thousands of vote-by-mail and polling place ballots that were outstanding as of the last count on election night last week.
But the results are not final: Roughly 1,300 provisional ballots remain to be counted in the District 4 race, according to the city clerk's office. A final update isn't expected until next week.
