March 18--PITTSBURGH -- Whe Notre Dame participated in November's Hall of Fame tipoff in Uncasville, Conn., Brey ran into Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton.
Hamilton's Seminoles had just lost to Northeastern and Hamilton was beside himself with how Florida State defended.
"He came up to me and said, 'Can you believe it, Mike? We gave up 12 uncontested 3-point shots,' " Brey recalled Wednesday before the No. 3 Irish open the NCAA tournament against the No. 14 Huskies.
It's Northeastern's offensive prowess that has the Irish, themselves a good offensive team, concerned headed into their matchup.
The Huskies shoot 38.8 percent from 3-point range, good for 28th in the country.
Brey, however, was encouraged by the Irish's defense in the ACC tournament, in which it held opponents to 24 percent 3-point shooting. Brey said the game plan against Northeastern may be similar to its game plan against Duke, when the Irish didn't double Jahlil Okafor in the post and concentrated on limiting Duke's shooters.
"We didn't have them as part of our draw up in the (tipoff event). But I remember saying to our guys, glad we didn't draw them," Brey said. "Come to find out, we did draw them."
