March 27--CLEVELAND -- On the back of a strong start, Notre Dame leads Wichita State 33-30 at halftime of the teams' Sweet 16 matchup in the NCAA tournament at Quicken Loans Arena.
The No. 3 seed Irish came out on fire, hitting 7 of 8 shots in the opening five minutes and saw their lead balloon to as much as 13.
But Wichita State clamped down defensively after the sluggish start and focused its effort on containing Notre Dame guard Jerian Grant, who finished the half wth just two points.
Pat Connaughton led the Irish with nine points in the half while Demetrius Jackson added eight.
Fred VanVleet led No. 7 Wichita State with 10 points. After the Irish's hot start, Notre Dame shot just 5 of 22 the rest of the half.
