Nov. 11--NCAA President Mark Emmert will be deposed Wednesday in a lawsuit over a college football player's death.
A Montgomery (Md.) County Circuit Court judge ordered Emmert's deposition in August in the case filed by the family of late Frostburg State University fullback Derek Sheely.
NCAA attorneys opposed the deposition, which will take place in Indianapolis, describing it earlier this year as "unreasonable and unwarranted."
Sheely collapsed during a practice at the Division III school in Frostburg, Md., in August 2011 and later died from a brain injury. Last year, his family sued the NCAA, along with two coaches and an athletic trainer from the university.
Sheely's mother, Kristen, wrote a letter to Emmert in December 2011 about her son's death. Four months later, another NCAA employee sent a four-paragraph reply on Emmert's behalf.
The notice of deposition for Emmert includes requests for the president to provide all documents related to Sheely and communication from member institutions asking the NCAA to take the lead on implementing concussion policies.
The case is scheduled for trial in July.
