BRIEF: Nationals Park reportedly will play host to 2018 MLB All-Star Game

April 05--It appears the 2018 Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be played in the nation's capital.

According to the Associated Press, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred intends to announce Monday that Nationals Park in Washington will host the mid-summer classic in 2018.

Dodger Stadium was among the potential hosts for the event. Last month, Manfred told The Times he had preliminary discussions about the Dodgers possibly hosting the game with Stan Kasten, president and CEO of the Dodgers. At the time Manfred said "multiple teams" were interested in securing the game, and that nothing had been decided.

The Dodgers last hosted the All-Star game in 1980.

The Dodgers were seen as a relative long-shot to get the game in 2018 because National League teams have already been confirmed as hosts for the next three games. However, the Washington Nationals are also an NL team.

The Cincinnati Reds will host this year's All-Star game followed by the San Diego Padres next year and the Miami Marlins in 2017.

Washington has hosted the All-Star game four times, most recently at RFK Stadium in 1969.
