April 08--Naperville and Aurora commuters parking at the Route 59 Metra station will have new temporary parking options to deal as part of the ongoing construction in the Aurora parking lot.
Beginning today, the daily fee parking time on 134 spaces in the Naperville lot -- on the north side of the station -- will begin at 6 a.m., three hours earlier than normal, according to staff reports. The spaces also will be available all day to permit holders.
The Aurora lot renovations include additional parking spaces, a new Pace bus staging area and three new driveways. The project should smooth traffic congestion and better connect nearby residential and commercial areas to the station.
Naperville City Councilwoman Becky Anderson asked Tuesday if staff might consider converting some permit-required spaces to daily fee parking until Aurora lot construction wraps up in October.
"They removed about 400 parking spaces," Anderson said. "It's a good opportunity to have more commuters park in the city of Naperville lot."
Naperville staff is expected to return with a recommendation on Anderson's proposal at a future council meeting.
