BRIEF: Naperville cops: Teen clocked at 106 mph was trying to impress friends

Oct. 30--A Plainfield teenager told police he was trying to impress his friends after being clocked driving 106 mph on the south side of Naperville, police said.

The 18-year-old was driving a 2014 Hyundai Veloster north on Plainfield Naperville Road at Gateshead Drive just before 11 p.m. on Oct. 24. At that time, police spotted him driving 60 mph in a 45 mph zone, according to Sgt. Bill Davis. When the teen reached 87th Street, he accelerated and was clocked on radar at 106 mph, Davis said via email.

An officer pulled him over at Bailey Road. The car was towed from the scene and the teen was arrested and faces a misdemeanor charge of speeding in excess of 35 mph over the limit. He has since been released on bond.
