BRIEF: Music Box's Dave Jennings heads west to Sony Pictures

April 03--Dave Jennings, Music Box Theatre general manager since 2009, leaves Chicago next week to become manager of repertory sales for Sony Pictures studio, based in Culver City, Calif.

At the Music Box, a grand and handsomely refurbished 1929 Chicago entertainment landmark, Jennings oversaw the theater's special events and new programs. The theater recently invested millions in an expansion, including an adjoining lounge and bar.

At Sony he'll work with the studio's restoration team to determine which evergreen titles are in need of a spruce-up and hold commercial promise as re-releases, "either on home entertainment platforms, theatrically or both," Jennings said Friday.

Sony's library, which also includes Columbia/TriStar titles, spans everything from "Lawrence of Arabia" to "Ghostbusters" to classic Frank Capra films.

"I'm heading out on Monday," Jennings said. No word on a replacement yet: "We don't want the first person for the job, we want the best person."
